With the growth of electric vehicles (EVs) around the world showing no sign of slowing, electric or e-scooters (both two- and three-wheelers) are at the forefront. E-scooters are lightweight, carbon-efficient, and can maneuver easily through congested traffic. With EV technology becoming more affordable, e-scooters are now significantly cheaper to ride than other modes of transportation—and the up-front and operational costs for owners are greatly reduced.

Products & Solutions

Parker Lord's CoolTherm thermal management portfolio is recognized for reliability and custom solutions for use in electric vehicles, energy storage systems, motors, and other power electronics. CoolTherm solutions increase performance, reliability, and safety while delivering tailored products to manage heat and increase power density in electric vehicles. These products boast high thermal conductivity and low viscosity, which lends itself to a variety of product applications.

Battery Packs

CoolTherm liquid-dispense gap fillers, potting and encapsulants and thermally conductive structural adhesives can be used in e-Scooter battery pack applications to remove heat from the most critical component. These materials are offered in multiple chemistries including: silicone, urethane, acrylic and epoxy.

e-Motors

We offer potting and encapsulant materials as well as a dielectric coating that are compatible with e-motors. Thermally-conductive epoxy and silicone encapsulants help manage heat, which enables you to increase the power density and life of your electric motor. Our studies have shown a temperature decrease of up to 50°C or an increase in power output up to 30% when using CoolTherm materials.

On-board Chargers

Output performance, not heat - CoolTherm gap fillers and encapsulants improve proper heat flow in inductors and transformers, optimizing performance during charging and increasing product longevity. Since our encapsulants have a low viscosity, they flow easily into the tiniest crevices, enabling better impregnation of irregularly-shaped magnetic components and helping to reduce inductor hum.

CoolTherm Materials Being Dispensed for e-Scooter Applications

This video is showing where our materials can go on two or three wheelers. It starts by showcasing the motor being potted, then opens up the battery box to show where our CoolTherm gap fillers, potting materials or low-density foams can be dispensed. Finally, the on-board charger is getting gap fillers applied to electronic component heat sinks to help remove heat and ncapsulants can be seen surrounding inductors.

Global Trends

With the growth of electric vehicles (EVs) around the world showing no sign of slowing, electric or e-scooters (both two- and three-wheelers) are at the forefront. Across Asia, three-wheelers, particularly e-rickshaws, are leading the way. Currently, e-rickshaws comprise a whopping 83% of India's electric market  with more than an estimated 1.5 million (15 lakh) on its streets.
