Parker frameless motors have been specified into a series of lunar rovers, which will be making their way to the moon over the next several years. The motors are being used to rotate the lunar tires that propel the vehicles across the moon’s surface.

While developing its next generation of electric buses, a leading bus manufacturer, reevaluated every aspect of the existing design elements to uncover ways to improve power density, reduce packaging size and weight, lower noise emissions and increase system efficiency as well as improve passenger and driver elements. Parker’s design included the integration of all electric components into the gear box: the electric motor, inverter, transmission, integrated cooling system and service brake. This high degree of integration reduced the number of interfaces to the vehicle and reduced the number of components and therefore, reducing the footprint and weight.

Diesel, January 2023 - Parker seeks to ease OEMs’ path to electrification, starting with hydraulic systems. OEMs continue to seek a broader range of solutions to meet customer and industry demands for ever greater efficiency, with some going all in on power system advancements like electrification. Yet, when it comes to motion, Chris Griffin, group business development manager, electrification, at Parker Hannifin’s Motion Systems Group, believes it doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing approach.

A job that involved multiple divisions of Parker Hannifin Corporation illustrates the staggering complexity of design and development projects of this type. Parker was approached by a well-known maker of commercial and executive jets for assistance in developing a new flap control system, including the flap power drive unit (PDU), for its new business jet.

A large automotive manufacturer was in search of a turnkey supplier to design and construct a large, central hydraulic system capable of providing stable hydraulic oil pressure at variable volumes. Learn how Parker and Allied Systems, a Portland, Oregon-based fabricator of material handling equipment for the wood products industry, worked together to redesign the hydraulic system of their New Generation series Wagner L490 Log Stacker for greater efficiency.  Before the redesign, the L490 took 18 seconds to lift a 45-ton payload from the ground to the top of its lift height of just over 19 feet. With a revised hydraulic system that has twice the hoist speed of the earlier design, Allied Systems was able to significantly reduce cycle times over the previous model L490 by two to one. The major components of the new L490 design include a wide variety of Parker Components, including P3 Pumps, M5 Fan Motors, K220LS and M402LS Valves, IQAN Controls, and Display Electronics.

Hydraulics & Pneumatics, October 2010 - The ultimate goal for a shredding system is to reduce the source material-appliances, tires, concrete, etc, - to smaller particles for recycling. To transmit the kw-speed, high-torque power needed for these heavy-duty shredders, a gearbox could be used to reduce speed from an electric motor while multiplying torque. However, hydraulics technology is a more practical solution both for systems driven through gearboxes and those that utilize low-speed, high torque motors in direct-drive systems.
