FAQ - Quick Coupling Division | Parker US

GENERAL QUESTIONS

Q: How do I find a Parker distributor?

A: Please visit our "Where to Buy" page on Parker.com to locate a Parker distributor.

Q: Can I buy parts directly from Parker.com?

A: Yes, select stocked parts are available on Parker.com. If a part is stocked, you will see a “Buy Now” button on the part’s product page. Orders will be fulfilled by one of Parker's distribution partners.

Q: How do I determine if Parker makes a direct interchange or similar part to my alternative brand of quick coupling?

A: Please refer Parker's competitive interchange reference tool (crossref) to understand if a cross-over exists.

Q: What if a Parker part is not listed on the competitive interchange reference tool (crossref)?

A: It may be that Parker does not make a direct interchange to the part, or the part is missing in our database. Please contact us at QCD.support@support.parker.com with further questions.

TECHNICAL QUESTIONS

Q: What seal is compatible with my fluid?

A: Please refer to the Parker O-Ring fluid compatibility app. Simply select the fluid from the list, and the compatible materials with a 1-4 rating will be populated.

Q: What if the fluid I'm using isn't on the O-Ring compatibility app?

A: Please contact Parker Engineered Seals Division to inquire about the recommended seal compound for your fluid.

Q: My quick coupling and hose fitting have different ports, how do I connect them?

A: Parker Tube Fitting Division makes adapters that allow you to bridge the ports between the quick coupling and hose fitting. Please reference the Parker Fitting Finder app for more information.

Q: What is the proper torque specification to install my quick coupling?

A: Please refer to Parker Tube Fitting Divisions' assembly and installation instructions guide.

Q: In regard to body size, how do I measure to determine the size?

A: Quick coupling body size is based on the flow capacity for an equivalent hose size. Essentially, there is an ideal hose size based on fluid flow rate and fluid velocity as those two characteristics determine the amount of pressure drop in the hose. Our body sizes are generally intended to match the nominal hose size. On occasion, quick couplings will be upsized relative to a customer’s hose in order to reduce pressure drop in their system, but, in general, quick coupling body size and hose size should match.

Q: I see certain parts offer a ball style and poppet style valve, can these be connected and used together?

A: Yes, you can connect either a male nipple or female coupler with either a ball or poppet valve as long as the body size is the same.

Q: The male tip on my implement does not hook up to the female coupler on my tractor. Does Parker make adapters allow me to make the connection?

A: Please reference the Agricultural Quick Coupling Adapters guide by clicking here. This guide can also be found in our Pioneer 3900 Catalog.

Q: How do I use the performance charts within the QCD catalog to understand flow and pressure drop for my quick couplings?

A:

  • As you may know, Quick couplings are typically valved which means they create some pressure drop as fluid flows through them. You can understand pressure drop by using the charts in the catalog.
  • Simply find your flow rate on the x axis and move upward to see where this interacts with the line on the body size coupler you're reviewing. From this intersection point, work leftwards to see what pressure drop you can expect on the Y-axis.
  • Conversely, you may know what pressure drop is acceptable based on your system requirements, so you can start on the y-axis and work rightward until you intersect with your system flow rate on the x-axis. As long as there is a body size that is at, or below this intersection point, the quick coupling should meet your requirements.
