The ultimate solution for overcoming both a large clearance gap and excessive tolerances is a Transfer Port Seal (TPS). A type of Fluid Transfer Seal specifically for axial sealing. The accordion shaped bottom allows the seal to compress and rebound to compensate for tolerance variation up to ± 1.0mm (0.039”). As the hardware gap closes and opens, the flexible accordion with expand and contract maintaining excellent line of sealing contact.
The Transfer Port Seal contains a steel insert designed to withstand pressures higher than any homogenous elastomeric seal can handle. Rigorous testing of one Transfer Port Seal contained 27.6 Bar (400 psi) at a 3mm (.118”) gap, though this could be improved if required by an application.
