Hollow profiles are much like an O-ring in the design when thinking about the Volume Fill and the Stretch. Unlike an O-ring, they can be compressed from 15 up to 50%, which means a hollow profile has a much greater ability to compensate for high hardware tolerances. A solid O-ring can only be compressed about 25%, and perhaps up to 32% in the case of small cross sections at a maximum material condition. In a Hollow Profile, the hollow core allows for greater hardware compression, without risking rupture to the seal material.
Hollow profiles can be designed to match an existing O-ring size or made to be a custom sizes as a way to correct any other less than ideal sealing issues. The Hollow O is the most popular however the options are unlimited, including an Omego profile, a D profile, the P profile and more.
Typical applications of Hollow O products include enclosure applications and static applications that require environmental sealing.
