The predominant component of CNG is methane. Natural gas is obtained from gas wells or in combination with crude oil production. It also contains hydrocarbons such as ethane and propane and smaller amounts of other gases such as nitrogen, helium, carbon dioxide, sulphur compounds and water vapor. CNG applications include mobile (On Vehicle) and infrastructure (Fueling Station) and provide valuable benefits, including:
LNG is a cryogenic state of natural gas (primarily methane with small amounts of other hydrocarbons) and is used as a means to store natural gas, as well as an onboard fuel option. The temperature required to condense natural gas depends on its precise composition, but it is typically between -120 and -170°C (-184 and -274°F).
LNG is suitable for heavy-duty vehicles, locomotives and marine vessels that require longer ranges because liquid is more dense than gas (CNG) and, therefore, more energy can be stored by volume in a given tank. However, because LNG is stored at extremely cold temperatures and requires ultra fine filtration, it is important to choose components that accommodate these requirements.
To stay at the forefront of the competitive transportation markets, fleet managers are turning to alternative fuels that meet the environmental and economic needs of today and in the future.
Of the many transport fuel choices available today, none plays a more strategic role than natural gas in having an immediate and major positive economic and environmental impact. But of the two most widely available – CNG and LNG – which is most appropriate?

The certification – one of the most stringent indicators of manufacturing quality in the bus and truck transportation supply chain – was awarded following a five-stage independent audit conducted by certification body Bureau Veritas. This highlights Parker’s robust approach to quality management systems and processes and reinforces its position as the global leader in motion and control technologies.
