Hybrid Actuation System (HAS) Questions

Q: What cylinder options are available on a HAS actuator?

A: HAS base cylinders are 2HB and RDH, the majority of options available on these two series are carried over to the HAS family. HAS Catalogs and Brochures

Q: What is the IP rating for the HAS cylinders?

A: While the HAS doesn't carry an IP Rating, Motor options available ranging from IP56, IP65 and IP69K. Hybrid Actuation System Cylinders Catalog

Q: Is explosion proof motor options available for HAS?

A: Motors rated for ATEX / IECEx for Zone 1 and Zone 2. UL Ratings include Class 1, Div 1 Groups C and D. Explosion Proof Servo Motors Catalog

Q: How do you I select a motor for a HAS unit?

A: HAS unit utilize PMAC Motors and a RMS calculation should be used. We offer an excel based sizing tool to imply this operation. Hybrid Actuation System Sizing Tool

Q: Do I need an controller with a HAS unit?

A: HAS units do not have directional control valves, so speed and direction are controlled by the speed and direction of the electric motor. PMAC motors do require a controller. We offer preprogrammed controllers with valve like controlling macros for easy integration into your system. Voltages ranging from 230-480 VAC and 24, 36 and 48V DC. HAS Install/Technical Manuals and Software

Q: What is the duty cycle of a HAS unit?

A: HAS units can operate at 100% duty, as long as the motor is properly sized. They are also available with air or water based heat exchangers for heat removal. Hybrid Actuation System Sizing Tool

Q: What is the differences between a HAS 500 and a HAS-ST

A: HAS-ST units are only available with 245W or 560W DC motors, while a HAS 500 has power upwards of 15HP, AC and DC power supply options. HAS Sales Tools

Q: What is the life expectancy of a HAS 500 unit?

A: Components utilized are suitable of millions of cycles. Testing has shown fluid life can exceed 8000 hours of operation. A fluid sample should be taken every 5 years to ensure the integrity of the fluid. HAS Sales Tools

Q: When should I use a PO check or counterbalance valve?

A: Pilot operated check valves should never be used on any runaway load conditions.  Even small externally induced loads can create PO check chatter, it is recommended to use a counterbalance valve with a reduced setting to prevent system chatter. HAS Sales Tools

Q: Can I use a HAS drive kit on 50 hertz power?

A: Yes all HAS preprogramed drives default to 60 Htz operation. Changing to 50 Htz can be done through simple keypad instructions. HAS Install/Technical Manuals and Software

Q: Can the power pack be removed from the cylinder and mounted remotely?

A: Standard configuration option include detaching the power pack from the cylinder. This option includes connect under pressure quick disconnects for field installation. HAS Sales Tools

Q: What network communication options are available for controlling a HAS unit?

A: For Mobile Operation:  J1939 Can bus, for Industrial:  Ethernet TCP and Ethernet IP available as standard. HAS Install/Technical Manuals and Software

Q: Can I use simple pushbuttons to control my HAS unit?

A: Yes, both Mobile and Industrial preprogrammed drive kits offer standalone discrete / analog inputs for controlling speed and direction of a HAS Unit. HAS Install/Technical Manuals and Software
