Nickel phosphorus is typically used to plate aluminum disks with a very thin and hard nickel coating. Filtration of sub-micron sized particles is essential in removing potentially defect causing particles and plays a role in the reduction of micropitting and other plating defects.
Parker offers a range of filters for disk nickel plating and has been successful in greatly reducing plate-out on the filter, which can result in lost production.
Lubes are typically low surface tension solvents with dissolved PFPE lubricants, which remain on the media after the solvent evaporates. As fly heights, or the distance between the head slider and media, are reduced to less than 10 nanometers, the removal of nanometer size particles becomes critical to the performance and reliability of the drives.
Parker provides filtration products for lube processes with superior sub-micron particles removal and very low metal extractables.
Parker provides clean, low metal extractable hydrophilic filters for DI water and dilute acids which are used to clean the media disks. These filters wet out easily with the process fluid and efficiently retain the sub-micron particles which could cause defects and result in lower yield.
Throughout the hard disk drive manufacturing process, wash steps are required to provide particle free substrates on the head, disk, slider, and even the storage case in the final assembly process. DI water, hot DIW, and DIW with surfactants are used in critical post-polish and post-sputter wash steps.
Parker has filters ideally suited to fit all recirculated or single-pass spray HDD wash applications.
Parker's all-polypropylene depth filters provide pre-RO protection from large particles in hard disk drive manufacturing processes. In addition, our line of Clariflow filters are rated down to 0.02 microns and are instrumental in ensuring the DI water, used for the most critical point-of-use applications, is free of yield limiting particles.
