Steer-by-Wire enables technology for autonomous operation, allowing mobile machines to switch between operator and autonomous (or remote) driving modes more seamlessly.
What level of functional safety is required with Steer-by-Wire? Mobile equipment manufacturers must perform their own risk assessment of their machines and determine what steering system is best for each machine type. Learn more about Parker’s approach to functional safety.
Steer-by-Wire means no more hydraulics in the cabin – in other words simplified connections, easier installation, and less cabin noise. With no need for a steering column, the driver environment can be shaped without compromise. The software-based controls make it easy to comply with existing and upcoming safety legislation, while also offering new levels of precision and efficiency. Performance is maintained in case of a failure, and any probability of unintended steering is minimized.
Our Steer-by-Wire components have been developed for systems with joystick control and/or an electronic steering wheel. These can be placed anywhere you like, since there is no mechanical connection to the chassis. The synergy between the SbW Tactile Feedback Device, Mobile Directional Control Valves, and software creates a complete steering solution that offers:

Parker’s next-generation Steer-by-Wire system meets safety standards, operates more efficiently with fewer moving parts to maintain, and operates with less operator effort in a more spacious, quieter cab. It is powerful enough to handle mobile equipment that operates in tough terrain and has superior energy efficiency and precision compared to conventional hydraulic systems.
INPUT DEVICE
The SbW Tactile Feedback Device (TFD) is a cutting-edge component designed to enhance operator interaction with the steering system. Key features include:
INPUT DEVICE
Parker's IQAN-LST is a mini, paddle style, single axis joystick for the mobile market. The LST can be easily mounted in the armrest or on the dashboard in mobile vehicles.
INPUT DEVICE
Parker Lord's fully-active Force Feedbck Device (FFD) further enhances operator confidence by offering automotive-like steering performance to boost operator comfort, as well as additional design flexibility to OEMs.
CONTROL LOGIC
Three versions are available and can be used in different ways to meet the requirements of any system.
