Compressed air is one of the most costly outputs in any factory, yet many applications would not perform without it. It is estimated that around 10% of all industrial electricity is used to generate compressed air and as much as 40% is wasted by leaks.

Our engineers are trained and annually approved to measure a number of variables to help you maximise your systems performance and lead to long term time and cost savings. These services have been developed to test on-site efficiency and pin point cost saving solutions.

    Parker specialised services offer are aimed to look at the more finite details and discovering advances to improve your onsite efficiency and long term cost saving.


    Services offered are leak detection, micro- biological sampling, Air Quality Testing and particle counting.


    Why is leak detection important and what is involved?


    Air leakage is the most common source of wasted energy in a compressed air system; therefore a detection system provides the greatest opportunity for you to make savings.


    Problems caused by leaks include:


    - Higher electricity bills

    - Product defects

    - Pressure drops that affect downstream processes and equipment

    - Increased load on compressors


    A qualified engineer from our experienced service team uses the most sophisticated ultrasonic detection equipment to survey your compressed air distribution pipe work:


    - Air leaks are identified using the latest sensory equipment

    - Leaks up to 50m away are detected

    - High level piping can be tested


    When an air leak has been detected, the exact source is pinpointed and logged. The survey forms the basis of a comprehensive report which estimates consequential costs of the leak, recommends a solution and indicates likely savings.


    Parker recommends that a leak detection survey is carried out at least twice a year for most systems or whenever new equipment is installed or processes are modified. Regulation EC 2037/2000 requires an annual leak detection check of CFC and HCFC refrigerant gases, used in older compressed air dryers and also beneficial for ensuring compliance with the Montreal Protocol.


    Why is particle counting important and what is involved?


    Particle counting/detection is important for improved quality and reduced spoilage in your business.


    In ultra-clean and critical compressed air applications, such as those required in the electronics, food and beverage or pharmaceutical industries, unwanted contamination could have severe consequences on the process. Quite often, the presence of this contamination is discovered only when there is expensive product spoilage or equipment failure.


    Regular testing by our technicians utilising widely accepted high quality instruments will identify contamination and allow corrective action to be taken prior to product spoilage.


    An accurate and consistent particle count will usually identify contamination before it becomes a more serious problem. It will also help you to:


    - Improve quality control

    - Reduce spoilage

    - Cut costs

    - Meet legislative requirements


    This service includes the following four steps:


    - Our service engineer will test samples of compressed air from points that you specify

    - Samples will be analysed using laser particle counting technology, typically five minutes per test point

    - Particle sizes are categorized in accordance to recommendations set out in BS5295

    - Testing is followed by a comprehensive report that will recommend any additional action required
