Parker Achieves 20ksi Validation For its Next Generation “CK” Profile Seal for Oil & Gas Choke and Kill Riser Sealing Applications

Next generation choke and kill seal meets pressure, temperature and API rating requirements necessary for deeper reservoir pressures in surface and subsea riser choke and kill applications.


SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 1, 2018 – The Engineered Polymer Systems Division of Parker Hannifin Corporation, the global leader in motion and control technologies, today announced successful validation of its “CK” profile seal for riser choke and kill applications of 20,000 psi (1378 bar) at 35°F to 350°F (2°C to 176°C). With offshore oil and gas exploration drilling deeper reserves, subsea drilling and associated equipment are demanding reliable 20ksi-rated sealing solutions.


The CK profile utilizes Parker’s highly engineered elastomers to provide outstanding performance for high pressure, high temperature (HTHP) applications in harsh environments. Parker’s HTHP materials have been immersion tested to API 16C Annex B standards to ensure reliable operation in deep reservoirs.

Design verification of the new profile included specialized test fixturing for 20,000 psi working pressure with a temperature rating of 35°F to 350°F (combination “VX” rating requirements from API 16C, Section 4.1, Table 1), and seal materials tested per API Specification 16C, Annex B, Sections B.9.4.3 and B.9.4.4. Materials of construction for the validated “CK” profile included Parker’s VG109-90 FKM shell with Parker VM125-75 FKM energizer, and non-galling coated stainless steel anti-extrusion garter spring.
