Kaarst, February 2018 – Parker Hannifin, the global leader in motion and control technologies, presents its new directly operated proportional DC valve D1FP with explosion protection as per ATEX and IECEx. For the first time, Parker has enabled the use of patented VCD® drive technology in explosive environments, useful in industries such as chemical processing, oil and gas.
The extremely robust DFplus valve D1FP of nominal size NG06, is well-suited to the most challenging applications. Thanks to its unique VCD actuator, the D1FP can reach performance levels that are usually only achieved by servo valves with torque motor drives – this means extremely high dynamics combined with maximum flow. The D1FP is particularly suited to hydraulic applications, where the highest accuracy in positioning of hydraulic axis and controlling of pressure and velocity are required. The power-down position ensures that the spool moves in a defined position if the power supply should be interrupted.
The new variant of the proportional DC valve, which is an explosion-protected class device (Ex II 2G Ex db IIC T5 and T6 Gb) in accordance with ATEX and complies with IECEx, differs from the standard version with its pressurised encapsulation for the electronics. This means the D1FP’s outstanding characteristics also work in explosive environments – depending on the variant, in ambient temperatures of up 60 degrees Celsius. The new control valve has already shown what it can do in initial applications in the chemical processing and power plant industries, promising potential for other applications in industries such as oil, gas extraction, or for use on oil tankers and freight ships.
The D1FP with explosion protection’s technical specifications are almost identical to those of the standard valve, both having features such as a large bandwidth for input signals. As Parker customers have become accustomed to, the parameters can be set and recorded using the company’s ProPxD, free software.
