Parker’s Hollow Keyhole Battery Cover Seals Offer Easy Installation and Improved Performance in Low Pressure Applications for the Electric Vehicle Market

LEXINGTON, KY, July 31, 2019 –The O-Ring & Engineered Seals Division of Parker Hannifin Corporation, the global leader in motion and control technologies, today announced the launch of the new hollow keyhole profile for extruded battery cover seals, designed specifically to address cost, assembly, ergonomics and vehicle light-weighting obstacles normally faced when challenged with sealing such a large perimeter like a battery cover in the electric vehicle market.

 

“The first thing that jumps out to me is how easy the seal installs into the groove compared to other types of seals. This will lead to reduced installation time,” said Bill Blevins, division engineering manager, Parker O-Ring & Engineered Seals Division. “Robust installation is key but so is maximizing time on a manufacturer’s floor.”

 

Other key advantages of the keyhole profile design include improved rollover stability performance, larger application gap tolerance and lower load reduction which provides lower application costs that would normally result from fasteners and thinner covers.

 

Installation, however, is not the only benefit of the new seal design. “The keyhole seal is a great solution for anyone looking for low load cover seals that are easy to install and retain well in the groove,” said Bruce Whitehead, automotive and electric vehicle product design engineer, Parker O-Ring & Engineered Seals Division.

 

Battery seals run the full circumference of an electrified vehicle, making retention, performance and functionality critical. Parker hollow keyhole seal’s ease of installation will increase productivity and improve operator ergonomics as plants become increasingly aware of repetitive motion injuries and employee safety.

 

Parker’s new keyhole hollow extrusion battery seals will make their debut at the Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo, which will be held on September 10-12, 2019 in booth 745 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan.
