In a fully operational open pit mine, the process begins with the production of blast holes. The surface drills work 3-4 days in advance of the ore moving equipment, drilling large diameter holes which are then loaded with explosive material and prepared for blasting. These drills have multiple hydraulic circuits interconnected to function as a unit. The plumbing of the hydraulic systems is critical to the productive operation of these units.
Parker’s GlobalCore series of multi-spiral hose and braided hydraulic hose give fleet reliability managers piece of mind the equipment will be operational until the next scheduled maintenance period. The flexible half bend radius is designed for easier routing, and the tough abrasion resistant covers ensure the assemblies will last longer. Combined with Parker’s OnSite Container assembly fabrication center and Parkrimp system, down time due to hose assembly failures can be minimized considerably.
Once the blasting is completed the removal of the ore begins with large hydraulic shovels loading the massive haul trucks. The hydraulic mining shovels are subjected to a constant pounding from falling debris. To facilitate the correct replacement of multiple hydraulic assemblies during the scheduled maintenance period, requires a robust asset management system. The Parker Tracking System, or PTS as it is commonly referred to, gives fleet managers a very powerful tool capable of providing not only bill of material information, but also a predictive failure mode and timing. This cloud base system gives users 24/7 access to asset records which contain all the information required to make critical maintenance decisions.
Haul trucks are a critical component in the movement of the ore from the rock face to the processing mill. These large haul trucks are required to operate under very strict emission reduction standards. To help ensure the diesel exhaust is complying with the industry standards, a urea-based diesel exhaust fluid is introduced into the fuel system. This fluid needs to be maintained at a certain temperature to be effective. Parker’s SCR series of selective catalytic reduction assemblies are purposely designed to meet the requirements of this critical application. The SCR series is available with thermoplastic and EPDM core tube material for use in the suction, pressure and return parts of the circuit.
Prior to being transferred to the mill for processing and refining, the ore is sized with a hydraulic hammer and dumped into the crushing unit using large front-end loaders. The material is then transferred to a ball mill as a first pass process before being put on a conveyor system to the main mill.
